“It was very unfortunate that, even today’s modern world around 733 million children are malnourished and one of its big reasons is unjust distribution of resources”, observed the Executive Director of Riverside Development Organization (RDO) Munawar Gill while according warm welcome to the participants of an event held under the theme of World Food Day at Riverside Community High School Rohri, today. Besides the students of RCHS, the event was also attended by the sisters organizations including, International Rescue Committee, NARI Foundation, Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), Medical Emergency Response Foundation (MERF), Social Welfare Department and others. Munawar Gill further said that, yet another reason of the food shortage is the climate change and he especially referred to the unprecedented torrential rains and flood of 2022, which equally proved disastrous for the infrastructure and agriculture throughout the country in general and particularly in Sindh province. M/S. Ambreen from IRC appreciating the role of RDO in nutrition sector said, RDO and NARI Foundation are working with us in the nutrition project. She said that, during this project children under the age of five will be screened and then referred to certain medical facilities like PPHI, District and Taluka head quarter hospitals and others for the treatment of malnourishment. Sajid Iqbal from MERF informed that, 13 organizations including, RDO and NARI Foundation are working with us to deal with the menace of malnourishment. Expressing his concerns he said, it is quite disturbing that, 20 percent of Pakistan’s entire population are malnourished. He advised the people to include few things in their daily intake, including, fats, sugar, salt, meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, wheat and rice and above all water. Waheed from NARI said, our organization besides working on nutrition project, is also busy in carving policies in this regard by taking parliamentarians into loop. The Program Director RDO Nadeem Yousuf in his speech said that, we must think about the coming generation and carve ways and means to rid them from the menace of malnutrition. He was of the view to establish a “Food Corner” in the school, to give awareness to the students about healthy and unhealthy food.
